Learner: Seth Myburgh    Learning Coach: Margaret Patrick   Date: 19th March, 2015
Learning Area: Health & Physical Education- Maintaining Regular Physical Activity
Learning Observed
Seth participated in the KDEC sports day.He attempted all the events. These included: 100m sprint, long jump, and the vortex throw. Due to the rain the rest of the events were cancelled so he missed out on the discus, shot and  high jump. We had practiced vortex throwing at school and so he had a good technique. He used a bit of a run up to the mark which was something he instigated himself. He won second place for the distance he threw and received a silver wrist band. He also was placed first in the long jump.

Seth's Creating a LH1 Treaty-Narrative Learning Story-11.03.15

Learner: Seth Myburgh       Learning Coach:Margaret Patrick            Date:11.3.15
Learning Area:Social Sciences-Place and Environment
Learning Observed
The learners and LCs in LH 1 thought that if we had a treaty it would help everyone manage the way we interacted with others in our beautiful new learning habitat. One of the key values at OrmPS is showing respect. The learners explored the meaning of  “respect” in three  different ways.
  • Respect for ourselves
  • Respect for others
  • Respect for our environment.
Everyone agreed on the final selection of criteria and these were printed out and displayed on the wall of LH1.
Seth is signing LH1’s treaty. He knows that he is making a promise to the other learners that he will try to make sure he is worthy of being a member of LH1 and that he can can show respect to others and manage himself in a way that makes him feel proud. This includes what happens at iBreak times. This treaty will be a reminder of his commitment to acting responsibly and making sure he continues to respect others. Seth is a very organised young man. He gets on with his work and would be very upset with himself if he got into trouble. He uses his manners and cares for his personal belongings and the resources in our LH’s.His hair is problematic as he and his dad are willing to risk the quality of his eye sight on his left eye as his hair hangs over it..  We have had many discussions about this at IEPs. Seth walks around with his head on an angle to keep the hair out of his eyes. This impacts on his ability to read lip patterns. He needs to respect the importance of seeing clearly as it is significant if he wants to maintain good speech development. Having hair over half his face can be a barrier  while interacting with others and impacts on  building relationships.

  • Tie his hair up during school hours so it is not a hindrance to learning and interactions with others.
